उ  हामिद पाकिस्तानी मुसलमान था।  वह तक्षशिला के पास एक गाँव में होटल चलाता था।  लेखक जब तक्षशिला के खंडहर देखने गया तो वहाँ उसका परिचय हामिद खान से हुआ।

A:  Hamid was a resident Muslim belonging to Pakistan. He used to run a hotel in Takshashila. When the author went to visit the ruins of Takshashila, he met Hamid there.

प्र  काश मैं आपके आकर यह सब अपनी आँखों से देख सकता!

उ  जब लेखक ने भारत इ रहने वाले हिन्दु -मुसलमान के संबंधों के बारे में बताया तो उन्हें विश्वास नहीं हुआ।  उन्हें हैरानी हुई कि वे सब त्यौहार मिल - जुलकर मानते हैं।  हामिद  ने कहा कि पाकिस्तान में हमेशा मुसलमान और हिन्दू एक दूसरे से नफरत करते थे।  वह यह कह रहे थे कि  काश वे भारत आकर हिन्दुओं और मुसलमानों के बीच के भाईचारे को देख सकता।

Ans:  Hamid was surprised that Indian Hindus and Muslims lived in harmony and even celebrated festivals together. What Hamid meant was that there was always some tiff between the Hindus and Muslims of Pakistan. He wished to visit India so that he could see in person the brotherhood shared by the Hindus and Muslims there.

उ  हामिद खान एक बहुत ही नेक इंसान थे. उनके लिए पैसों से ज़्यादा इंसानी रिश्तों की कीमत ज़्यादा थी।  लेखक के पक्के दोस्त बन चुके थे, इसलिए उन्होंने खाने के पैसे लेने से इंकार कर दिया। वह यह भी चाहते थे कि  जब लेखक भारत वापस पहुंचे तो सबको यह बताएं कि पाकिस्तान में भी नेक लोग रहते हैं।

A:  Hamid was a man of values. To him, money was nothing as compared to humanity / human values. As he had become friends with the author he reused to accept money.

नए इलाके में

इन नए बस्ते इलाकों में
जहां रोज़ बन रहे हैं नए - नए मकान
मैं अकसर रास्ता भूल जाता हूँ

भावार्थ :

कवि किसी नई बस्ती में पहुंचता है तो अकसर अपना रास्ता भूल जाता है, कारण यह कि वहां रोज़ नए - नए मकान बन रहें हैं।  इसलिए, उन्होंने आने - जाने का रास्ता और ठिकानों तक पहुँचने के लिए जो निशान  बनाए थे, वे अब काम नहीं आते।  वह पीपल का पुराना पेड़ खोजता है या कोई टूटा हुआ घर ढूँढता  है या वो ज़मीं का खाली टुकड़ा, जहां से उसे बाएँ मुड़ना था।  किन्तु बहुत समय बाद ये सारे निशान वहां पर मौजूद नहीं थे।  लोगों ने पीपल के पेड़ को उखाड़ दिया, ज़मीं का खाली टुकड़ा नहीं रहा क्योंकि वहां पर एक मकान खड़ा था।  अत: उसकी साड़ी पुरानी निशानियाँ अब बेमानी हो गईं।  उसे याद था कि  खाली प्लॉट के दो मकान बाद इकमंज़िला  मकान था जिसके बहार बिना रंग वाला एक लोहे का फाटक था. परन्तु समय के साथ - साथ इकमंज़िला दोमंज़िले में बदल गया और फाटक सज - धज गया।  इन कारणों से या तो वह अपने घर के बिलकुल आगे पहुँच जाता या बहुत पीछे रह जाता। 

पद्य :
धोखा दे जाते हैं पुराने निशान
खोजता हूँ पीपल का पेड़ खोजता हूँ ढहा हुआ घर और ज़मीं का खाली टुकड़ा जहा से बाएँ
मुड़ना था मुझे
फिर दो मकान बाद बिना रंगवाले लोहे के फाटक का
घर था इकमंज़िला

भावार्थ: कवि कहता है कि  नए इलाके के नै बस्ती में रोज़ कुछ - ना कुछ नया बन जाता है।  कुछ और नए मकान बनते हैं, कुछ नै घटना घाट जाती है. इसलिए यहाँ पुराने जगह ढूंढने के लिए अपनी याददाश्त पर वह भरोसा नहीं कर सकता।  पुरानी यादें , पुरानी निशानियाँ  बेमाने / बेमतलब हो गईं  हैं।  जब अपने पुराने यादों के सहारे वह नए जाता है तो ऐसा आश्चर्य होता है जैसे वह बैसाख का गया वापस  आया हो , मतलब एक लम्बे अंतराल / समय के बाद लौटा हो।  परिवर्तन प्रकृति का मूल नियम है , इसे हम जितनी जल्दी अपना लें , उतना ही अच्छा है।  पुरानी यादों के सहारे वर्तमान जीवन को जीना बहुत बड़ी भूल होगी।

Wow! 86,400 seconds! 21,600 breaths! PLEEAASE! For your sake stop rushing through your life with this petty mathematics! If you are going to count the calories, you'll never be able to relish your CAKE! Life is meant to be LIVED and LOVED and not a journey from point A to point B. Everyone starts at point A and reaches point B, albeit at different times. LIFE IS THE JOURNEY ITSELF. LIVE, LET LIVE AND LOVE.

THE STORM GURU

It was dawn. As Meenakshi Amma woke up, she saw the golden, glittering rays filter through the half open window. The soft, melodious ghanta ninadam from the nearby Vishnu alayam floated in the air. The birds were celebrating the dawn with mellifluous, rhythmic chirps. The charming jasmine vine from the front garden was spreading its hypnotic perfume in the air.

Meenakshi Amma quickly arose, made her bed and went to the backyard well to finish her morning routine. 20 minutes later, she was all ready to visit her old friend Lord Krishna. It was a 85 year old friendship which never got comprised because of family obligations and responsibilities. Be it the scorching Chithra Pournami celebrations, the windy Aashada month of Devi puja, Sharada Navarathri or the chilly Margashira early morning Bhajan, she gave a full attendance.

Other than Dear Kanna, a loving name for Lord Krishna that a young Meenakshi gave, cooking, handicrafts, feeding poor children and stray animals and birds, giving tuitions to poor children, her vegetable garden in the backyard and the herbs and flower gardens in the front porch fuelled her passion.

After her children two daughters and two sons settled in different parts of the globe, she refused to visit them, for it pained her heart to leave her Kanna even for a moment.&nbsp; She also successfully resisted their futile attempts to get her acquainted with the very trendy cellphone and social networking connections. <br>

It was a dull Sunday which suddenly became dark with clouds hovering overhead and a strong wind that turned into a howling storm. By evening, there was a huge downpour washing down the streets of Krishnapuram. The rain god danced all night.

The next morning Meenakshi Amma woke up, she had a hard time fighting her tears. Her flower garden was consumed by the hungry rains. The jasmine vine, rose patch, Tulsi all gone. She painfully looked at the empty space, sat like a stone there crying a river. Her neighbour and old friend Bhagyam, sarcastically commented, &quot;Well this is what we get for months of hardwork.&quot; &quot;Well! What was your Kanna doing?&quot; Meenakshi Amma looked at Bhagyam through her tears, but said nothing.

The next few days a busy Meenakshi cleaned up the house and surroundings for her children and grandchildren&apos;s arrival. She prepared their favourite dishes, bought some dresses and fancy jewellery pieces for her daughters-in-law and granddaughters. She forgot completely about the garden.

The first few days were spent in greeting one another, sharing information during meals. The gifts were happily accepted. A few days later Meenakshi Amma looked longingly at her garden and got busy rebuilding it. Bhagyam was surprised and couldn&apos;t stop commenting, &quot;Oh my Lord, she&apos;s at it again.&quot; She told Meenakshi&apos;s children, &quot;She&apos;s obsessed with her garden. She needs some change. Have you ever thought of taking her with you?

Meenakshi Amma looked at her, with compassion and spoke, &quot;The storms may recur, may or may not destroy my hardwork. It strikes regularly, without fail. YES! it does break my heart. But, when it can&apos;t stop trying its destruction on my garden, how can I not stop trying creating what I love? Let it try its best and let me try my best.

There was a deep silence as Meenakshi busily tended to her blooming buds. Everyone understood. Yes there will be ups and downs, destroy our peace of mind, shake our balance. We must grieve, but must never give up standing up again.

REVELATION!

PART 1

So? What's life? Breaths taken from birth to death? SOUL? I've been hearing, also googling on that, which says we all come from GOD, based on our past life's KARMA (actions / deeds) we take an appropriate form. From a grass to a human, there are levels, like a video game. So, I suppose if I'm a human now, its because I've managed to transcend all those levels according to my KARMA. And if I commit some error I'll be taken to a previous level or continue being reborn as a Human or ultimately free the soul through salvation!

I don't remember where / what I was before being me neither will I remember if I'll be ushered into another form. So, how do I escape this?  The wise say free yourself of Karma. HUH? ! EXCUSE ME! But does that mean, I a homemaker sit in meditation,  do nothing and chant God's name? Well then who'll take care of my family?

No, it can't be! Then even if that's taken care of, can I free myself from all those thoughts which attach me to my people or things and sometimes principles? Lord Krishna says whatever it is that you do don't expect the result, instead commit your action to me and you'll be free of sins or blessings.

PART 2

Well, that's impossible. If I put on a new dress, I expect a compliment, atleast from my better half.😇. A new recipe shouldn't go unnoticed. Even if I claim to be a mature person, there's an internal process, how many likes will I get? If I get likes I'm happy if not, GOD help me and save others from me. CRITICISMS? YOU KNOW THE RESULT.

Maybe what the Lord intended to say was that you'll be born, reborn till you learn what you have to. Also I've observed that if I focus too much on the result,  I'm unable to give my 100%. If I do it with passion,  the result takes care of itself.

Also its almost impossible for me to practise detachment,  so all I can do is forget this cycle of birth, death, salvation etc., focus on this body's life, do my duty happily, expect nothing, consider life a learning process and see GOD in life forms. I BELIEVE WE ARE ALL INTERCONNECTED IN SOME WAY AND ARE PART OF THIS UNIVERSE. SO LOVE YOURSELF AND OTHERS AS YOU WOULD YOURSELF. 😇

Dear students,

I'm going through a really painful phase. I don't know when I'll be back to normal. Be patient with me. Maybe in a week or two I'll start with the lessons again. Till then give me some time to find myself. I feel lost

HEART ATTACK

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Let's say it's 6.15pm and you're going home (alone of course),
...after an unusually hard day on the job. You're really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles (8kms) from the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you
don't know if you'll be able to make it that far. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy that taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself..!!

NOW HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE..

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.
However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.
The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.

My brother Ramana / Ramnarayan Iyer was very cheerful, positive, humorous,  musically inclined, highly creative, great in mimicking, had a deep knowledge of cricket etc. Knew the map by heart as 6 year old. An extrovert. Would make friends with almost anyone instantly. Multilinguistic. Would mimic the accent of any region just like that.

People please appreciate every individual for their uniqueness. We all have preconceived notions of how our life journey should be and when things don't go according to OUR plans, we feel disappointed. There is a greater DIVINE design, that we forget about. We don't see the bigger picture. We judge, criticise and alienate people for being different. But that's how it should be, will be.

All of us are gifted in different ways. Let's appreciate and respect one another for that. Never miss a chance to tell someone that you love them, care for them. Never think I'll talk to them later. That later may become NEVER. Please think.

I won't be writing anything for sometime. Sorry.

My brother Ramana or Ramnarayan Iyer as his friends know him was a loving brother more of a friend to me. Though, younger he was more mature and cool.

On Wednesday, 6th January, 2016, my phone rang at around 23:00 hrs. I thought he was calling up to chat, as he usually does. I was shocked as I heard an unfamiliar voice asking me what am I to him? The voice said they had found him lying on the road unconscious and it looks bleak. When I said I was in Hyderabad, they immediately asked me tell anyone living in Delhi to contact at his number immediately.

I informed my uncle. After an hour we got the bitter news. My mother was shocked. We didn't know anything till we reached Delhi.

Ram had gone to a theme park with the family, came back in the evening and had coffee. Went for a walk at 6:30. Then I saw him at the morgue on 7th for identification. Looked like he was sleeping.

He was cremated in Green Park on 7th January. I still can't believe all this. Its all too sudden. I'm sure he's with us in spirit i;e his family and friends. I thank all who had such nice thoughts to share.

This pain will be on forever, for all.

This kind person also donated his organs and has spread light even through his demise.

He used to answer his critics not in a fiery way but explained his ground from a higher perspective which was not offensive or hurt the sentiments of others. This was the main reason for his becoming the favourite of all.

Agni Path

प्र  कवि ने "अग्नि पथ' किसके प्रतीक स्वरूप प्रयोग किया है ?

उ  "अग्नि पथ" का अर्थ है आग से घिरा हुआ रास्ता. इसका भावार्थ है - कठिनाइयों से भरा हुआ रास्ता।  मानव जीवन में हर कदम पर संकट से आमना - सामना होता है।  वह केवल फूलों से नहीं बल्कि / वरन काँटों से भी भरा है।

Q. What does the poet mean by "Agnipath" ?

A. "Agnipath" means a path of fire / surrounded by fire / flames. Deeper meaning is a path of thorns or a path strewn with difficulties. Human life doesn't come easy. It is mired / filled with difficulties. At every step, one has to face a myriad of problems / struggles. It is easy as cakewalk at sometimes and not so in others.

प्र।  "मांग मत कर शपथ" लथपथ , इन शब्दों का बार - बार प्रयोग करके कवि क्या कहना चाहते हैं ?

उ  कवि इन शब्दों के माध्यम से मनुष्य को जीवन में आगे बढ़ने की प्रेरणा देते हैं।  जीवन में बहुत संघर्ष और प्रयत्नों के बाद ही मनुष्य को लक्ष्य की प्राप्ति होती है।  लक्ष्य की और चलते हुए मनुष्य को की कठिन परिस्थितियों से गुज़रना पड़ता है।  उसे कठिनाइयों से नहीं घबराना चाहिए और अपने मन को एकाग्रित कर अपने लक्ष्य की और कदम बढ़ाना चाहिए।

Success doesn't comes easy, it is only after lots of struggles and sacrifices that a person achieves their goal. They shouldn't lose hope or confidence in the face of struggles, but concentrate and move towards their goal with grit and determination.

प्र  "एक पथ छाँह भी मांग मत" इस क्या कहना चाहते हैं ?

उ  अपने लक्ष्य - प्राप्ति के पथ पर चलते हुए किसी का भी ध्यान लक्ष्य पर ही होनी चाहिए , उसे सुख की अपेक्षा नहीं करनी चाहिए।  अगर सुख में मन राम जाए, तो सुख की आदत पड़ जाती है और हमारे लक्ष्य - प्राप्ति के मार्ग में वह बाधा / अड़चन बन जाती है।


A.  When a person has to achieve something or has a certain goal, they should have eyes and ears only for that. Even a moment of lapse or addiction to a certain weakness, would work as a roadblock.

प्र   भाव स्पष्ट कीजिए :

१  तू न थमेगा कभी
    तू न मुड़ेगा कभी

भाव :  हमारा जीवन एक नदी की तरह है. जैसे नदी सिर्फ आगे बढ़ना जानती है और कभी पीछे नहीं जाती, उसी तरह मनुष्य को आगे, अपने लक्ष्य की और बढ़ते रहना चाहिए, चाहे जीवन में कितनी भी कठिनाइयाँ  आएँ , उसे कभी रुकना नहीं चाहिए, न ही वापस जाना चाहिए।

A:  Our life can be compared to the forward flow of a river. A river continuously moves forward, finds its way through curves, turns, mountains and other hurdles. Not even for once, does it stop, takes a reverse course or stagnates. Likewise, we humans capable of doing great things, shouldn't get disheartened by failures, roadblocks, etc. We mustn't lose hope and move ahead confidently till we achieve our goal. There's no excuse to stop or go back.

प्र   चल रहा मनुष्य है। अश्रु स्वेद रक्त से लथपथ, लथपथ, लथपथ।

उ  लक्ष्य - प्राप्ति का मार्ग संघर्षों से भरा है।  कई उतार - चढ़ाव आते हैं।  काफी भरसक प्रयत्नों के बाद, की सुखों का त्याग करके ही मनुष्य को सफलता मिलती है।  जो मनुष्य कठिनाइयों से न घबराए और उनका हिम्मत से सामना करे, विजय उसे ही मिलती है।

A:  In the path to achieving one's goal, nothing comes easy. It is only after long periods of hardwork, sacrifices etc. a person becomes successful. Nothing comes easy, success comes with a price tag of confidence, hardwork, hopefulness, to do the required work ,even when it seems bleak. A person who has all these qualities, reaches the summit of victory.

Hi! :-))) I'M BACK!

Dear friends,

I had hibernated so that I could take care of some priorities. Now that I'm back. we will be dealing with the Q/A in Hindi and English. I'll deal with the grammar portion (English) also, hopefully. I'll be honest with you all, while teaching my kids and you all it's like I'm learning all again. AND ... I really love this. Let's hope me and my computer don't go into hibernation again.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016 and HAPPPY LEARNING. My computer still hasn't got a cure for its disability. ;-) . BUT... I'm prepared to work so that I help all, which is like Oxygen to me. So... let's look ahead into another year of fruitful learning.

But.. do be patient with me, coz playing a sister, daughter, daughter-in-law, mother and what not, is not an easy job. So, don't worry, I'll try finishing the schedule before the exam arrives.
Do not fret, if you don't get it right the first time. A little bit or maybe more ;) daily, goes a long way. Its just a subject. Be cool and put in your best efforts. OK?! :))
